Letter Of Intention, Application for CGA:
I am applying for your education, because I have been doing 3D graphics for many years,
but without ever developing a proper artistic foundation.
Something I believe is necessary for any successful 3D Artist.
For the last 5 years, game development has been my main focus, and I am aiming for a career within this field.
My idea of a dream job used to be very much centered around the AAA game productions.
I always had a thing for shiny first person shooters, like Crysis, Mass Effect, Unreal, and other big budget games.
After an internship at small games studio, Unity Studios, this somewhat changed.
I gained a lot more respect and interest in smaller indie games, and the unique feels and stories they each bring.
The part I find interesting with computer games, is not so much the action, gameplay, or actual characters,
but more the "feel" and story in the games.
The most fascinating thing with games has always been the exploration, and what you got from this particular environment.
I know that the CGA bachelor is not very game development oriented,
but artistic principles are universal, and the practical workflow knowledge is not where I am lacking.
I was first encouraged to apply for your program about 4 years ago, by your former student Sune Reinhardt Fogtmann.
After my HTX I started at Medieskolen in Viborg, where I met Sune, and was first introduced to your school.
Sune and I worked together at Medieskolen, for example on a small 3 week project ( http://youtu.be/XmrbZiYHv98),
and after learning about my interest and abilities in 3D, Sune was convinced (and still is) that your school is perfect for me.
Being inadequately skilled at drawing though, I did not try to apply, but instead went to 3D College in Grenå,
followed by an internship at Unity Studios in Århus.
I finished the internship in 2010 and decided to try and apply.
I went to The Drawing Academy early 2011, and sent in my portfolio last March.
After my portfolio was rejected last year, I got a job at Cadesign Form in Århus, as a 3d artisan.
A different approach to reaching my career goal, could be to try to get directly into the game industry.
Getting some low level position as level builder or prop modeler, and then work my way up.
However, this goes somewhat against my belief in building abilities on a strong foundation.
Something I believe can only be found a few places in Denmark. One of the best of these being your school.
